You’re in Manistee, you’re hungry, and you don’t have a lot of money to spend. Where do you go to get the best grub for $5 or less? I’ve rounded up my favorite deals for the frugal foodie from all over town! Do you know of any cheap and delicious tidbits that I missed? Be sure to mention them in the comments below. I’ll keep adding more delicious, inexpensive options as I find them!
Mancino’s Pizza & Grinders
If it’s a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, you can get the most bang for your five bucks at Mancino’s! Their current offerings include a great selection of $5 meal deals, served all day during the first half of the week.
I’m a big fan of the chicken tenders basket. I love that both their chicken and fries are baked, so they’re a little healthier, and I always feel like I got a lot of food for my $5. (I also really like their barbecue sauce – just the right balance of tangy, smokey, and sweet – and a good dipping sauce is definitely key to a chicken tenders meal!)
It’s not just the specials that are cheap! The regular menu includes some great deals that you can get any time. Just looking for a snack? At a mere $2.50, their jalapeno cheese fries pack a filling, flavorful punch.
If you are watching your calorie intake, they also offer several small salads – Greek, Caesar, and taco – for just $3.50 apiece. Considering the low price and diminutive name, the portions are actually pretty generous!
Mancino’s also runs other daily specials throughout the week that will satisfy your hunger without devastating your wallet, so it’s always worth stopping.

If you find yourself downtown on a weekday between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, The Fillmore’s happy hour specials include a limited but delightful selection of small plates with big attitude for just $5 each.
A mouthwatering pair of buffalo chicken sliders is my favorite option on the list. The house-made sauces are a perfect balance of flavors! Trying to cut carbs? They also have some spicy lettuce wraps that I really enjoy. Can’t decide what to try? Go big and order one of everything on the happy hour menu, and it’ll still cost you less than an entree.
More exciting news from the kitchen at The Fillmore: while it doesn’t come in at the under $5 mark, they also recently started serving pizzas, and built their own wood-fired pizza oven. (Yummo!) They fire it up in the afternoon and start serving pizzas after 4:00, so you can grab a pie and still take advantage of happy hour drink pricing!

Thirsty Thursdays at TJ’s Pub are one of my favorite foodie traditions in Manistee! After all, who can resist the call of half price appetizers? Every Thursday from 3:00 to 10:00 PM, this half-off special brings a fabulous array of choices into the $5-and-under range.
I’m a sucker for a good spinach dip, so of course it’s one of my favorite choices! It’s creamy and delicious, and they don’t skimp on the spinach and artichokes so it’s bursting with yummy flavors. At half price it’s just $4.50.
The smoked whitefish dip, tamales, bruschetta, and lemon garlic shrimp are also all delectable dishes that work out to be $5 or less on Thursdays. Too many choices that sound good? Bring a friend or two and order several items to split!

While it’s changed owners and names several times over the years, one thing remains a constant at the Jailhouse Bar: it’s one of Manistee’s best-kept secrets when it comes to affordable eats. (Shhhh!) Just a little way off the beaten path, the specials at the Jailhouse are simple, cheap, and good. It’s not a gourmet spread, but it’s a great value!
There is a different special for every day of the week, including hamburgers, hot dogs, and sloppy joes, but my favorite is taco night on Wednesdays. At just 75 cents per taco, you’ll spend less than you would for a fast food taco and walk away more satisfied.
Their only specials that go over the $5 mark are the Friday fish fry deals (which are still cheap and come with an interesting variety of choices) and their steak fry, so there is always something cheap to munch!
